Can my dog eat antidepressants?

No.

Unless your vet prescribed this exact medicine for this dog at their dose. A swallowed human antidepressant or sleeping pill can cause serotonin syndrome, heavy sedation or heart-rhythm problems.

Already ate it?

If they ate itEmergency. Go to a vet now with the packet and the strength. Don't make them vomit unless a vet tells you to.
Watch forAgitation or heavy sleepiness, wobbliness, dilated pupils, tremors, a high temperature, a racing or slow heartbeat, seizures — usually within 30 minutes to a few hours.

Thinking of giving it?

WhyVets prescribe some of these at dog doses, but a human tablet is not a smaller version of the same thing. Older antidepressants like amitriptyline affect the heart, and some sleeping pills make dogs agitated instead of sleepy.

Where this comes from. Merck Veterinary Manual — Poisonings from Human Prescription Drugs (antidepressants, benzodiazepines, sleep aids).
