Can my dog eat chickpeas?چنے
A little.
Plain boiled chana, no masala, in small amounts. Chole and chana chaat are a different answer — they're cooked with onion, garlic, salt and chilli.
Thinking of giving it?
How much is fineA spoonful of plain, well-boiled chana mashed into the bowl, as an occasional extra.
WhyPlain cooked chickpeas are a reasonable source of protein and fibre, but they are gassy and a big helping causes bloating and loose stool. Raw or tinned-in-brine chana are not suitable.
Already ate it?
If they ate itA few plain ones are fine. If they ate chole or chana chaat, it's the masala that matters: a mouthful is a watch-at-home; a plateful, call your vet.
Watch forGas, bloating, vomiting or loose stool within a day. Pale gums or weakness over several days after a lot of chole (onion and garlic).
